I have long wanted to take my work in a new direction, and creating a zodiac series for the Drawadot online store gave me the perfect opportunity. For this series, I thought it might be fun to start out with free-flowing ink and then almost pull the figure out of the background once the ink dried. Applying the colors wet on wet and letting them flow got me away from planning every detail before I painted, and it was a really fun challenge to figure out how to make it look like a lion.
For Leo II, I chose warm, vibrant colors as Leo is a fire sign. I also decided I wanted it to appear even more wild by letting the paint strokes and drips show. I think it is a very lively piece that perfectly expresses the fiery nature of Leo’s personality.
